We have a fun day planned for the whole family! There will be music, face painting, a bounce house, an obstacle course provided and run by the US Marines, a fire truck, a SECRET SPECIAL GUEST that all will enjoy, lunch provided, contests, crafts and much more! There is no cost to participate in the Buddy Walk festivities.

The Buddy Walk is a wonderful way to celebrate those we love born with Down syndrome. Anyone’s invited- the more the merrier! This is the Emerald Family Down Syndrome Network’s largest fundraiser. Families circulate pledge forms to their neighbors, co workers and friends prior to the walk. The Buddy Walk is a great way to educate our community about Down syndrome awareness. Using the pledge forms and talking about the Buddy Walk to people outside our immediate circle gives a more personal testimony that people with Down syndrome deserve to be accepted and appreciated for who they are and what they contribute to our community.
90% of all money we raised at the Buddy Walk stays here locally to support our EFDSN programs and events. The remaining 10% we raise at the Buddy walk is given to:
- The National Down Syndrome Society, to support their endeavors to make the Buddy Walk successfully worldwide.
- The Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation at Stanford University.
- SAIL, who is a local organization working toward funding independent housing for adults with disabilities.

We have some great speakers planned to inspire and motivate our participants. As of now the planned speakers are: Dr Randy Phelps with the local Down Syndrome Clinic, Ted and Kristi Barker, the local Special Olympics coordinators, Carol Hokman with Lane County social services who works with adults with Down syndrome, plus guest appearances from several self advocates.
Available at the walk we will be selling Buddy Walk merchandise. We will have commemorative 2008 EFDSN Buddy Walk shirts, Buddy Walk water bottles and Buddy Walk wrist bracelets.
We are very thrilled to have Rick Dancer as our Master of Ceremonies and Key Note Speaker.
The EFDSN has an exciting day planned. A few of our planned activities include:
- Pre walk music from local musician Cal Faddis

- Marine Corp Reserve unit 6th ESB Eng Co A will be organizing an obstacle course for all abilities
